Just as the moon guides the tides, female storytellers navigate the currents of imagination. Their voices shaping worlds and inspiring generations. I celebrate them today. — The Book Druid
Happy International Women’s Day! When sitting down to pull cards for myself, I felt inspired to instead, pull cards for all you beautiful women storytellers. I even created a 3-card spread especially for you! Here it is… feel free to use any time you want to feel empowered while on your writing journey.
The Empowered Storyteller Spread
Inner Voice: This card represents your inner voice, your intuition and the story inside you, yearning to be told.
Overcoming Obstacles: This card highlights any challenges or blocks you might be facing or struggling with.
Creative Spark: This card offers guidance and inspiration to ignite your creativity and move forward with your story.
Inner Voice (10 of Swords) - Clarified by the Wheel of Fortune:
This is a heavy energy for your inner voice, which is why I pulled a clarifier. The 10 of Swords usually represents defeat, exhaustion and hitting rock bottom. However, with the Wheel of Fortune as a clarifier, it suggests a turning point. Change is coming. You might be feeling drained and overwhelmed by your project. Maybe you recently received a rejection letter or discouraging words from a reader (or writer) that has left you feeling defeated. The Wheel of Fortune is telling you this feeling is temporary. A shift is coming, and your hard work will eventually pay off.
Overcoming Obstacles (The Moon):
Whenever I pull the Moon card — for myself or someone else — it’s a signal that shadow work needs to be done. This card is about fears, illusions and hidden emotions. It can represent anxieties and uncertainties that are clouding your creative vision, as represented by your inner voice (10 of Swords). The Moon suggests you might be struggling with self-doubt, imposter syndrome or fear of sharing your work. It can also point toward a lack of clarity about your goals or the direction of your story.
Creative Spark (Daughter of Pentacles):
In this deck — The Wild Unknown — the court cards are a family to make the connection with them a little easier. The Daughter of Pentacles is the Page of Pentacles. The Page represents new beginnings, groundedness and a focus on practical skills. It speaks of a desire to learn and grow as a writer. She is encouraging you to develop your craft, take workshops or connect with other writers for inspiration. You have the potential to develop your skills (if you choose to do so) and find a practical path forward.
My Overall Thoughts
These cards highlight the challenges women writers face: self-doubt, creative blocks and fear. However, they also offer encouragement. The Wheel of Fortune is about change and suggests things are about to shift. You may indeed need to confront your fears and anxieties (The Moon), but the Daughter of Pentacles brings the promise of a fresh start and the ability to learn and grow your craft.
Actionable Guidance:
Acknowledge the struggle: It's okay to feel overwhelmed or stuck. Writing is a demanding process. Ask me how I know…
Be open to change: The Wheel of Fortune suggests an opportunity for growth. Perhaps you need to try a new approach, explore a different genre or seek out resources or feedback from an editor or writing coach (oh hi, I’m one of those btw!)
Get back to basics: The Page of Pentacles encourages a grounded approach. As an earth dragon, I’m all about the practical stuff. Break down your goals into smaller steps, learn new skills or simply focus on the joy of writing itself.
Seek support: Don't be afraid to connect with other women writers, join a writing group or find a mentor/coach. Sharing your journey with others can be incredibly helpful and healing… for you and them.
Like the ancient oaks, women writers of fantasy and sci-fi stand strong, their roots deep in legend and their branches reaching towards futures yet unseen.
May your stories flourish.
a lovely spread, thank you!
This is such a GOOD and well written interpretation of the cards, you really are gifted with this. I am not even a professional writer and got a lot of comfort from this. xo
