Hello, my coven of writers -
As I've watched my own journey unfold over the past several weeks, I've felt in my bones it's time for a change. "The Weekly Draw" no longer feels like the right fit for this space. It's a reflection of where I was, not where I'm going.
I've moved into a new space, both literally and figuratively. Externally, my home environment and work/business are shifting to match the inner work I've been doing. Internally, I've been experiencing rapid growth and change, and I'm excited to share this journey with you along with the “ponderings” I’ve been having.
In addition to tarot/oracle readings and journal prompts, I've decided to include inspiring quotes — some my own, some from others — related to the readings. These quotes will serve as a reminder of your power as a writer and your ability to speak your truth through fiction. My hope is that these quotes will motivate you to truly believe in yourself and your ability to birth your novels.
I'm thrilled to introduce you to Pensieve Ponderings. This new name reflects my desire to go deeper into the creative process and offer you a sacred space for reflection and inspiration.
The weekly reading
Weekly energy: 8 of cups
The 8 of cups represents a sense of disillusionment or dissatisfaction with the current path. In the context of writing, this might indicate feeling uninspired, stuck in a creative rut, holding onto characters and/or plot lines that don’t fit the narrative or questioning the direction of your work. However, I want to remind you that this is a temporary phase. The 8 of cups suggests that it's time to let go of what no longer serves you and open yourself up to new possibilities. “Kill your darlings” is a phrase I’m sure you hear often. But it’s only when you let go of what’s not working in your story (this takes being honest with yourself) that those new possibilities will present themselves to you.
Actionable guidance:
Reflect on your current writing journey. Are there any aspects that feel stagnant or unfulfilling?
Consider taking a break from your usual writing routine. Explore new genres, writing styles or formats.
Trust your intuition. If something doesn't feel right, let it go.
Weekly intention: 2 of cups
The 2 of cups tells me there’s a need for a harmonious relationship, whether it's with another person or with yourself. In the context of writing, this might mean seeking feedback from others, collaborating on projects or cultivating a supportive relationship with your own creativity. Even if you don't have a strong support system in your writing life, you can still form a partnership with yourself. This can involve self-care, self-belief and a commitment to your writing goals. You have to believe in your story and your ability to birth it FIRST. You can’t expect readers, editors and/or agents to believe in it when you don’t.
Actionable guidance:
Practice self-compassion. Be kind and gentle with yourself as you navigate your writing journey.
Set realistic goals. Break down your writing projects into smaller, achievable steps.
Celebrate your accomplishments. Acknowledge and reward yourself for your progress.
Believe in your abilities. Trust in your talent and your potential.
By fostering a positive relationship with yourself, you can create a strong foundation for your writing career.
Grounding force: 7 of swords
The 7 of swords represents cunning, strategy and the ability to navigate challenges. In the context of writing, this might suggest the need for a more strategic approach to your writing goals. It could also indicate the importance of protecting your intellectual property and setting boundaries.
Actionable guidance:
Develop a writing plan or schedule. This can help you stay focused and productive.
Protect your intellectual property. Consider copyrighting your work or seeking legal advice.
Set boundaries with distractions. Create a dedicated writing space and minimize interruptions.
Final message (oracle card): Bloom
The "Bloom" oracle card is a message of self-confidence, feminine energy (reminder: we all have masculine and feminine energy within us, and in this context it means “being in flow”) and individual fulfillment. It suggests that it's time to embrace your unique voice and let your creativity blossom. Yes, you indeed have a unique writing voice. You may get inspiration from other writers, but the way in which you tell a story is unique to you. Don't be afraid to experiment and express yourself authentically.
Weekly ponderings
Ponderings from others…
Sometimes, you need to walk away from the table to see the table." - Unknown
In case you didn’t know, I love quotes and have the rare (and weird) ability to store them in head without meaning to. This quote in particular echoes the sentiment of the 8 of cups, suggesting that sometimes, stepping away from a problem can provide a fresh perspective and clarity. As a writer, taking a break from your work, whether it's a short walk, a day off or a change of scenery, can help you see your project in a new light and gain renewed inspiration. You do not need to be writing every day to call yourself a writer.
Ponderings from me…
"It's okay to leave a story unfinished if it's no longer fulfilling you."
The 8 of cups can also represent a fear of abandonment. You might feel obligated to finish a project, even if it's no longer inspiring you. I have felt many times and have wrestled with the “overachieving, straight A student” version of me on several occasions.
This fear, that you’ll be judged for not finishing a project, let it go. Because the truth is, you’ll be judged either way… whether you finish your writing project or not. As a writing mentor, what concerns me most is what you’re making those “judgements” mean. If a story isn't serving you anymore, it's okay to move on and focus on something that truly excites you. Your creative journey is about self-discovery and fulfillment, not about finishing every project you start or pleasing others.
Journaling prompts for the week:
What are you currently feeling dissatisfied with in your writing?
How can you create a more supportive and collaborative writing environment?
What strategies can you implement to protect your intellectual property and set boundaries?
What steps can you take to embrace your unique voice and let your creativity blossom?
I hope you've enjoyed this inaugural edition of Pensieve Ponderings. Never forget that your creative journey is a unique and personal one. Trust your intuition, be not afraid of the unknown and let your words flow freely.
As you continue to explore the depths of your imagination, may these tarot and oracle readings serve as a guiding light on your path.
Until our paths cross again,
The Book Druid
