The Weekly Draw for July 7th thru 13th
Looking after your mind, body and spirit this week
Hello, dear ones. Welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekly Draw. When I woke up this morning, I felt called to pull cards for mind, body and spirit this week. There are many ways to use this 3-card spread. But my favorite way — and the way I feel is most potent — is to use it to gain insight on how to look after yourself. Our mind, body and spirit are interconnected. They work as a unit, and should therefore be viewed in that way.
Here’s what the cards have to say.
The first thing I noticed was there are two major arcana cards in the spread, the magician and the lovers, alongside the seven of pentacles. The magician fell onto the table and the lovers fell on the floor next to my chair. When looking at them all together, I received a message that this is a week for growth and self-discovery, with a focus on intentionality and following your creative heart.
Mind (seven of pentacles):
The seven of pentacles is associated with nurturing and perseverance. As well as patience. As a storyteller, this card is advising you to tend to your ideas and cultivate your creativity… in the same way she is lovingly tending to the loaves of bread she is baking. This might involve:
Setting realistic writing goals and sticking to a schedule.
Revisiting old projects or ideas that you haven't gotten around to yet.
Engaging in activities that stimulate your mind and imagination, such as reading, people-watching or taking walks in nature.
From a literal standpoint, this could also mean to bake a loaf of bread to shift your focus. Baking is another form of magic and creativity. It’s been a while since I’ve had my hands in dough. Lately, when I can’t seem to work out problems, I will get outside and walk several miles like Elizabeth Bennett. But perhaps I need to get back to basics and bake some bread… despite not wanting to turn the oven on in this heat.
Body (the magician):
The magician represents willpower, mastery and the ability to manifest your desires. This particular magician feels very druidic to me and I love it. He is telling you that you have the power to take control of your well-being this week — if you choose to. Here's how you can translate this into action:
Establish healthy routines for sleep, exercise and eating.
Incorporate activities that energize you and reduce stress, such as yoga, meditation or spending time in nature.
Remember that a healthy body supports a healthy mind. By taking care of yourself physically, you'll be better equipped to tap into your creative flow. Everything is interconnected and intertwined.
Spirit (the lovers):
What are your thought on the imagery of this card? I love that it’s a tree as opposed to two people or characters. The lovers is a powerful card associated with choices, relationships and following your heart. Upon seeing it, I knew instantly it represents the connection between your inner world and your creative output. This week, consider the following:
Exploring themes of love, desire, choices and connection in your writing.
Examining your own relationship with creativity and asking yourself what truly inspires you.
Following your intuition and letting your heart guide your writing.
Big energy from the majors
The appearance of two major arcana cards is hinting at a significant turning point or a powerful influence on your creative journey. This week might be a time for:
Being open to new challenges or stepping outside your comfort zone in your writing.
Following a sudden burst of inspiration or a creative spark.
Making a conscious decision to prioritize your writing and invest in your creative growth.
The numerology of the cards
The sum of the magician (1) and the lovers (6) being 7, represented by the seven of pentacles, adds another layer of meaning to this spread.
The number 7 in numerology is associated with introspection, seeking knowledge and completion. Here's how it ties to the cards:
Seven of pentacles: This card reinforces the idea of nurturing your creativity by seeking new knowledge and refining your skills.
The magician + the lovers + seven of pentacles: Together, the cards saying to use this week to find inspiration through introspection (lovers, 6) and translate that inspiration into action (magician, 1) by diligently working on your craft (seven of pentacles, 7).
Journal prompts to carry you thru the week
Mind (seven of pentacles)
Taking stock: Make a list of all your current writing projects. Yes, all of them. Which ones feel neglected? Can you dedicate some focused time to one of them this week?
Sharpening the tools: Is there a specific writing skill you'd like to develop, like dialogue, description or character development? Research some writing exercises or techniques and commit to practicing them this week. PS: I can help with this. Reach out to me… I don’t bite.
Setting the bar: What are 2-3 realistic and achievable writing goals you can set for yourself this week? These could be word count goals, outlining a specific scene or revising a particular chapter.
Body (the magician)
Sleep sanctuary: Evaluate your current sleep habits. Are you getting enough quality sleep? What changes can you make to your routine to improve your sleep hygiene this week?
Move your muse: Do you have any physical activities you enjoy, like dancing, hiking or yoga? Can you incorporate some form of movement into your writing routine this week?
Creative oasis: Describe your ideal writing space. Is there anything you can do to make your current workspace more organized, inspiring or conducive to focus?
Spirit (the lovers)
Heart of the story: Is there a theme of love, desire or connection you've been wanting to explore in your writing? Freewrite for a few minutes about a story idea centered around this theme.
Rekindling the flame: What initially sparked your passion for writing and storytelling? What activities or experiences can you engage in this week to reconnect with that inspiration? Hint: Baking that loaf of bread might be one of them.
Character crossroads: Is there a character in your current project whose motivations or desires feel unclear? Spend some time journaling from their perspective to gain a deeper understanding of their inner world.
Until next week, xo
The Book Druid
Thank you for this insightful draw for the week. It is always helpful to look at the link between the mind, body and spirit. I drew the cards in my journal and played with the images and prompts. Using Oracle and tarot cards are wonderful tools to inspire intuition and conversation. These were powerful images.
